SmartSkeMa is a software tool for documentating both formal and (so-called) informal, customary, or indigenous land tenures. Land data captured using SmartSkeMa can faithfully represent the nature of tenure according to local customs while being compatible with data models used by official land administration systems.
Why SmartSkeMa?
There is a lack of software tools to support the management of informal, customary, or indigenous land tenure information. Existing tools do not have the functionalities required to faithfully represent local land customs as well as adequate user interaction modalities to facilitate independent execution of land administration processes by communities. SmartSkeMa addresses both challenges and more!
The following videos demonstrates the workflow of SmartSkeMa system and use cases in Kenya and Ethiopia
The use case demonstrates the integration of farm parcel boundaries with existing spatial datasets.
Tools used:
■ SmartSkeMa: extract non-visible boundaries of parcel drawn on transparent sheets.
■ Boundary Delineator: extract the visible boundaries of the form parcels.

The use case demonstrates the integration of spatial/non-spatial information drawn on
plain piece of paper with existing spatial datasets. These sketch maps have been collected through
community mapping exercises with a Maasai community in Kajiado, Kenya.
